Organising your trip : There are various options but I use the following :
Flights : In the summer you can book online flights with www.avro.com (for Monarch), or Be aware that Thomas Cook does NOT give refunds for any cancellations ! Also, changing flights can sometimes cost as much as the price of new flights ! Avro/Monarch has a more reasonable cancellation /change policy, depending on the number of weeks before departure.
Fly Gatwick <> Heraklion, then it is a is a 150km, two and a half hour drive to Palekastro / Kouremenos.
In the winter there are no charter flights, but Aegean or Olympic Airlines flights Heathrow > Athens > Heraklion are available.
It is also possible to fly with Aegean from London > Athens > Sitia. Sitia is only 20km from Kouremenos but can currently only take small aircraft.
There are daily flights from Moscow in the summer with Russian airlines and charters as well as a daily flight with Aegean via Athens.
Car Hire : Car Rental Crete (Sonja & Yannis Kefetzakis)
They have an excellent fleet of cars, all quite new, well maintained and with full insurance. Their prices are very reasonable compared with the big names. Roofracks can be ordered too
Accommodation : Kouremenos Beach Apartments (Nikos Hatzedakis)
Nikos speaks perfect English and is very well organised. He has a number of apartments of his own with excellent quality and reasonable prices. He can also organise other accommodation in case his apartments are all full
